Certain foods and beverages can increase ocular pressure, and therefore can worsen glaucoma symptoms. Coffee, and caffeine in general, is shown to increase intraocular pressure. Alcohol can also rapidly increase pressure in your eyes. Additionally, a diet high in refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and unsaturated fats may contribute to an increased risk of glaucoma.
It’s suggested to maintain a healthy diet consisting of leafy greens, fruits and vegetables, oily fish, and nuts to reduce the risk of glaucoma and maintain a healthy body as a whole.
