Seeing an ophthalmologist on a regular basis ensures early detection and treatment for eye disease, especially in children. Parents should monitor and report any concerns to their eye care specialist. Proper eyesight is fundamental to your child’s social and educational success as well as their ability to clearly focus on their surroundings. It’s never too early to learn about and combat the onset of eye disease in your child.

Your doctor will examine your newborn’s eyes and address any concerns at birth. The American Academy of Ophthalmology suggests another screening between 6-12 months, 12-36 months, and 3-5 years. By the time they are at school age, they should receive a comprehensive eye exam every 2 years to address any concerns as soon as possible.
